Better Plugin Compatibility Control macht es dem Blog-Administrator einfach, die Kompatibilität aller installierten Plugins auf einen Blick zu überprüfen. Das Plugin fügt der Pluginübersicht die jeweiligen minimalen und maximalen WordPress-Versionswerte hinzu, unter der die jeweiligen Plugins getestet wurden. Bisher musste man dies auf der jeweiligen Pluginseite checken. Nun steht diese Information übersichtlich auf der Pluginübersicht zur Verfügung. Der Administrator kann nun entscheiden, ob er ein Plugin mangels Kompatibilität besser deaktiviert.

Anforderungen

Das Plugin benötigt WordPress 2.5+, kompatibel mit 2.6 und 2.7

Installation

  1. Downloaden Sie das Plugin und entpacken Sie es.
  2. Laden Sie den Ordner better-plugin-compatibility-control/ in den /wp-content/plugins/ Ordner hoch.
  3. Aktivieren Sie das Plugin im WordPress Administrationsbereich.
  4. Fertig die Installation.

Upgrade

  1. Deaktivieren Sie das Plugin im WordPress Administrationsbereich.
  2. Laden Sie die Datei better-plugin-compatibility-control/ in den /wp-content/plugins/ Ordner hoch und überschreiben die alte Version.
  3. Aktivieren Sie das Plugin im WordPress Administrationsbereich.

Better Plugin Compatibility Control makes it easy for the blog administrator to check compatibility of all installed plugins. The plugin adds version compatibility info to the plugins page to inform the admin at a glance if a plugin is compatible with the current WP version. Until now you had to look it up on the respective plugin page. It's now up to the admin wether to deactivate a non-compatible plugin or not.

Requirements

The plugin requires WordPress 2.5+, compatible with 2.6 and 2.7

Installation

  1. Download the plugin and unzip it.
  2. Upload the folder better-plugin-compatibility-control/ to your /wp-content/plugins/ folder.
  3. Activate the plugin from your WordPress admin panel.
  4. Installation finished..

Upgrade

  1. Deactivate the plugin from your WordPress admin panel.
  2. Upload the folder better-plugin-compatibility-control/ to your /wp-content/plugins/ folder and overwrite the existing file.
  3. Activate the plugin from your WordPress admin panel.

    Do you have any intentions to make this 2.7.1 compatible?
    It looks a little silly having a compatibility checking plugin pointing out that it is out of date…

    Hi there,
    I have been using your unique and excellent plugin on my blog ever since day one and am very happy about it.
    I now upgraded to wordpress3 (works great even though you say compatible to 2.8) and schanged to multisite
    My issue is that it canNOT show compatibility on mu-plugins, since they all are in one folder and there can only be one readme.txt file.
    Are you thinking of handling this someway? It would be great.

    Hello again Oliver,
    Time passed and we are now on wordpress 3.1
    So….. Another idea/request

    At present when activated via “network activate” the plugin gives NO info on super-admin plugins. It does though for site-admins.
    Also, when activated for the individual sites it works fine for them BUT not for super-admins.

    I think it should be the other way around. It should give compatibility info to super-admins ONLY (and if possible to chosen admins as well).

    Anyway, just my thoughts…

    I have a large collection of plugins, and “Better Plugin Compatibility Control” improves the Admin Plugin Table in a manner that is very helpful.

    Of 550+ plugins, I have seen HTML Table problems with 3, and 2 of those are the work of Michael Fields.

    Especially his “Taxonomy Images” prints large portions the WP Extend Description and Readme.txt, between the left & right columns and in so doing blows the Plugin Table to smithereens.

    Hello,

    I have noticed that the plugin “Taxonomy Images” prints a large amount of it’s Readme.txt into the WP Admin Plugins Table, upon activation of “Better Plugin Compatibility Control”.

    The author, Michael Fields, thinks maybe the back-ticks he uses in Readme.txt lead to the issue.

    He & I discussed this issue on his webpage for his plugin, here:

    I like both plugins, but am unable to have both of them installed at this time. Is this a problem that you recognize, and might be addressed?

      Hey Ted,

      looks like the readme.txt of the Plugin doesn’t have “line breaks”. When I view it on the server with Midnight Commander, it doesn’t break any line. Other readme.txt files display corrently.

      I’m not sure how Michael Fields saved the file, but it’s not saved corrently in my humble opinion.

        Okay, just saw that Michael will be addressing the readme.txt issue in an upcoming version. ;) I will be upping a new version of “Better Plugin Compatibility Control” anyways these days with improved parsing that I came up with while dealing with the readme.txt issue.

    In noting the Readme.txt formatting issue, I suspect that you may have pointed to the (a) source of scattered odd plugin behaviors, both on the WordPress Extend Plugins Repository, and on individual WordPress installations.

    I look forward to your updated version of “Better Plugin Compatibility Control”. Michael Fields also announces a pending new version of his “Taxonomy Images”. I will install these updates at their earliest availability!

    Those who are interested in Michael Fields’ series of taxonomy-related plugins (which enhance & extend one of WP’s most useful features) should note that to greater & lesser degrees, some of his other plugins have been similarly affected, and thus may also see fresh updates.

    Hello Oliver,
    Thank you for the upgrade. It looks so much nicer now and it picks up every plugin with or without a readme file. Brilliant.:-)
    I use it on my multisite installations. That means that I as the superadmnin want to know the compatibility of the plugins and I don’t want the other site-admins to see the compatibility, because it is unnesessary to them. They cannot update the plugins, so I don’t think they need to know their compatibility as well.
    Right now if I network activate the plugin, all the site-admins see the compatibility, but I cannot see it on the plugins page of my network plugins. This means that I have to go to a site, check from there
    the compatibility and then come back to the super-admin plugins page (network plugins page) and act accordingly.
    Is there some way I can make the plugin to ONLY show the compatibility on the network plugins page and NOWHERE else?
    Please advise.

      Okay, version 1.1.1 just rolled out adding multisite support. :) The compatibility data is showing up for every user with the rights to manage network plugins which you should have as a super/network admin.

    Hello Oliver,

    I installed the 2 recent upgrades consecutively. The first upgrade cleaned up the last couple minor formatting issues that appeared with a couple plugins. The new location of the version-information with the Description is very good.

    With a long/large plugin table like I have, it is noticeable that the Description column cells usually have much more content than the Plugin title & controls column cells, and thus take up more height … because the 2 columns are near the same width.

    I have thought to look into modifying the widths of these columns, so their heights average about the same. That will make the Plugins Table more compact. It would be nice to have an interface to allow settings-controls for that, and maybe other parts of the table (font size).

    Are you aware of such a thing already having been done? A plugin that allows this control? I would likely use your plugin as a guide.

      Havn’t heard of a plugin for that. There are built-in options for the plugins page, though. Just click “Screen options” on the upper right of the plugin page which opens the page options where you can hide the plugin description. Maybe that helps?

    Hi Oliver,

    love your plugin, I use it on a big multisite install with 100+ plugins and 40 blogs. But I have to oppose the opinion of Ted, I would like to show the normal blog admins the compatibility info as well. I do not have the time to check all the plugins with every wp-update, as I admin that site in my spare time for our artist collective. And should they have troubles with their blogs, that compatibility info could be a hint for them what could be the reason.
    Maybe you could make an option page where you could configure the needed capability to see your plugin output?

    Hi
    Have tested your plugin but I don’t get any version presented in the list over all my installed plugin. I run the latest version of WordPress so I assume its only works for earlier version of WP?

    Have issue again after I upgraded WP to version 3.4 I dont get your plugin to work even if I clear all cache. Have tested in IE, Firefox, Chrome but no version check seems to appear. Can you check if your plugin must be upgraded to support WP 3.4?
