Admin Management Xtended Plugin// Easing WordPress Administration

Admin Management Xtended on wordpress.org Download v2.4.5

As a whole, the new WordPress Admin panel is organized fairly well, however when it comes to editing posts or pages quickly without having to open each post or page in a new tab or window, it isn't a very efficient process. For those who are using WordPress as a CMS, it's important to be able to manage contents easily and quickly. That's what this plugin helps to do.

It adds some icons to the posts/pages management panel with AJAX-driven CMS-known functions like toggling post/page visibility, changing publication date and title without having to open the edit screens or reload the page, plus changing page order with drag'n'drop, inline category management and inline tag management, plus much more.

The plugin requires WordPress 3.2+

  1. Download the plugin and unzip it.
  2. Upload the folder admin-management-xtended/ to your /wp-content/plugins/ folder.
  3. Activate the plugin from your WordPress admin panel.
  4. Installation finished.

  1. Deactivate the plugin from your WordPress admin panel.
  2. Upload the folder admin-management-xtended/ to your /wp-content/plugins/ folder and overwrite the existing file.
  3. Activate the plugin from your WordPress admin panel.

Notes on changing page order via Drag'n'Drop

Since Version 1.0 it is possible to change page order via drag'n'drop. Currently it's only possible to drag top level pages, that means only those pages with no parent pages. It is planned to make it possible for child pages, though.

    @Gasp: Glad you fixed it with this little plugin. The Codex suggests using plugins like yours aswell.

    @Doc4: Those lines with ‘get_date_from_gmt’ are needed for DB entries since there are two rows for post_date and post_date_gmt that need to be updated. I do have an idea to fix this, though. What’s your setting in wp-admin in Settings> General> Time Zone?
    And I’ll have a look at the other issue you mentioned, thanks!

    The setting for time is set to: UTC: -4

    The time is now: 7:25 pm
    UTC time is 2008-10-19 20:58:35
    UTC -4 is 2008-10-19 16:58:35

    Come to think of it, I didn’t set this at all. But what would you suggest?

    meanwhile I released version 1.9 which extends the popout calendar to specify a certain time in addition to the date. 🙂

    Hi Oliver,
    Neither the time nor the date are updating.
    When I click the icon, the calendar appears with the correct date selected, but the time always says 12:00.
    I can type a new time into the text boxes, but when I click close, it doesn’t update the time on the post.
    When I click a day, the popup disappears without updating the date.

    What will happen to your plugin with the wordpress 2.7 ? The new version will allow for changing post categories inline, plus many other things.

    @btp: To make this clear for me: You click the icon to open the popout calendar, enter the time, and click the date. The calendar disappears, but post date doesn’t change? Well, for approx. 99% of the plugin users this is working fine. May you please provide a demo login (doesn’t need admin rights, editing capabilites would be okay)? 🙂

    @Aouni: For 95% I’ll stop maintaining the plugin in WP2.7. A notice for 2.7 users is already built-in. As you already said, 2.7 has a QuickEdit feature, so there’s no need for mine anymore.

    @tomas kapler: That’s not possible. Pretty tricky thing, especially since with 2.6 pages are paginated. How to move a dragged item to the next page? Plus, 2.7 is about to release, maybe it’s built in then. 😉

    This is a great plugin! Thanks for your work. I am however having a weird issue with this plugin, specifically on the manage links page — I’m using wpmu (2.6.2) and ozh’s admin menu plugin. (I saw the poster above had a similar issue, but didn’t see any resolution to his issue — it just seemed to start working for him?).

    Hey sewpafly,
    the issue’s not been fixed yet. It’s caused by Ozh’ plugin inside of mu.php, so it just occurs in WPMU. I’m still in contact with the poster above, but I doubt I’ll fix this. WP2.7 is about to be released, and I’ll stop maintaining the Admin Management Xtended plugin with WP2.7 being released.

    Hi,

    First, I would like to thank you for this wonderful plugin for WordPress.

    I wish I can speak in your language, but i only speak English and Mandarin, so please bare with me on this :).

    New WordPress 2.7 has some awesome features which it’s hard not to use their Beta version, but the plugin has an major issue with the new version. You can’t see the tags from the CMS. (unless you go in the full post editing).

    Could you please kindly fix this issue in future update?

    that’s not an issue. 🙂 I’m going to stop maintaining this plugin with WP 2.7, so it won’t load if WP2.7 is running since 2.7 has a built-in QuickEdit feature already…

    This plugin is fantastic, but I have a javascript error and can’t use it.

    This is the error:
    jQuery(“.date-pick”).datePicker is not a function.

    Can you help me?

    Ein sehr nützliches Plugin, das mir sicher gute Dienste leisten wird. Vielen dank dafür.

    Eine Frage hätte ich jedoch. Bei den Actions gibt es die “Toggle comment status open/close” Funktion. Wenn es grau hinterlegt ist ist die comment funktion dann auf “off” und wenn sie blau ist auf “on” oder umgekehrt?

    This is a fantastic plugin!! Love it.
    I just upgraded to 2.7 today and when I try to activate this and I got this message:
    The Admin Management Xtended plugin wasnt developed for WordPress 2.7 and higher, which has a QuickEdit feature already built-in. Please deactivate Admin Management Xtended plugin and use WordPress’ QuickEdit feature.

    I still like the options you offered better esp the ones to define Categories and Tags.

    Any plans to upgrade this for 2.7? I will have to stick without this for a while until the situation changes.

    Zu erst einmal ein super Plugin!! Hat mir sehr sehr viel Arbeit abgenommen.

    Schade, das du das Plugin mit 2.7 einstellen willst, da die eingebaute Quickedits nicht so gut sind wie bei dir. Ich nutz z.B. die Pagereihenfolge und die ist bei 2.7 nicht so komfortabel eingebaut wie es mit deinem Plugin war. In der SVN Version hat dein Plugin zumindest optisch gut funktioniert.

    Today I’ve upgraded my WP to 2.7 version and I see following message:

    The Admin Management Xtended plugin wasnt developed for WordPress 2.7 and higher, which has a QuickEdit feature already built-in. Please deactivate Admin Management Xtended plugin and use WordPress’ QuickEdit feature.

    Unfortunately QuickEdit is really far from being good replacement of AMXP. Are you planning release of version WP 2.7 compatible?

    1.What has a QuickEdit feature already built-in?
    2.What might it cause some misbehaviour?
    3.I find the changeimgset.gif and the 2.7 Table Header background-color is too similar.
    4.And find Page order via Drag’n’Drop can not be used in WP-2.7!!

      the tags not being displayed is a known issue, that may be fixed incase I’ll port this to 2.7 sometime.

    Hi,

    ich nutze die Version 2.7 (von WP) und dein Plugin in der aktuellsten Version. Scheinbar scheint bei mir aber grundsätzlich etwas kaputt zu sein, da ich den Threadcharakter bei meinen Kommentaren nicht mehr hinbekomme (sprich, wenn ich im Adminbereich auf einen Kommentar anworte, rutscht meine Antwort ganz nach unten wie ein neuer Kommentar).
    Der Images-Ordner ist auf jeden Fall auch mit drin.

    I like this plugin so much, and i hate to say that the drag’n’drop functionality seems to be broken with subpages.

      Hey micha,

      that’s not a bug. It’s a feature. 🙂 Ordering subpages depending on their parents is a mite tricky, so I intentionally disabled subpages when ordering pages via drag&drop to avoid unwanted behaviour.

    ein sehr praktisches Plugin. Leider habe ich nach dem Upgrade auf WP2.7.1 Probleme mit der Darstellung des Dashboards und der Bearbeitung meiner Seiten. Es kamen immer nur weiße Seiten ohne Inhalt. Nach der Deaktivierung war alles o.k. Schade. Version 2.0.2

      Hey jens,
      weiße Seiten sind meist ein Problem durch fehlenden Arbeitsspeicher, vor allem bei WordPress durch gettext. Wenn du im Plugin-Ordner meines Plugins die Sprachdateien löschen würdest, würde das Plugin auf Englisch sein und funktionieren, denke ich.

      Du müsstest also bei deinem Hoster nachfragen, ob er das memory_limit anhebt.

        This should be mentioned somewhere (in English). I’ve been desperate for a while to lower the memory usage of our company’s website as we exceeded 32MB of RAM and couldn’t figure out why.
        I deleted the language files now and hope that it reduces the memory (although of course I’m aware that this isn’t the only cause…)

        Thanks for the great plugin! The only thing I’d be looking for is resizing of columns.

        Hallo Oliver,
        tatsächlich hat mein Provider ein Limit gesetzt
        – RAM: 32MB
        – NPROC: 24 – es dürfen bis zu 24 Prozesse gestartet werden

        Ändern will er nichts. Ich habe ein anderes Plugin deaktiviert um dieses mir wichtiger erscheinende zu aktivieren. Läuft wieder einwandfrei.

    Drag and Drop page order only works for top level pages.

    Hallo Oliver,

    da ich Dein Plugin bei früheren Projekten (vor WP 2.7) immer sehr zu schätzen wusste und ich es nach wie vor für eine gute Ergänzung zum “eingebauten” QuickEdit halte, wollte ich es in einem aktuellen 2.7er Projekt zusätzlich installieren. Irgendwas hat sich da aber leider fundamental gebissen, denn plötzlich wurden nur noch Fragmente des Backends geladen. (Las oben, dass es wohl ein Speicherproblem ist.) Kurzum, ich hab das Plugin wieder deinstalliert.

    Nach der Installation/Deinstallation von Admin Management Xtended funktioniert nun das normale QuickEdit nicht mehr richtig. In der Artikel-Übersicht ist alles in Ordnung, aber in der Seiten-Übersicht fehlen plötzlich die Speichern/Abbrechen-Buttons unter dem QuickEdit. Ist Dir das schon mal untergekommen? Ich bin komplett ratlos und reichlich verzweifelt, da ich diesen Bug unbedingt beheben muss, bevor ich das Projekt übergebe. Vielleicht hättest Du einen sachdienlichen Hinweis für mich?

      Hallo Christina,

      wenn mein Plugin deaktiviert ist, greift es in keine Hooks mehr ein, sodass es auch das normale “QuickEdit” nicht mehr beeinflussen sollte.

      Hast du schon mal probiert, alle anderen Plugins auch zu deaktivieren, und peu-á-peu zu reaktivieren? Dann würdest du sehen, woran es liegt.

      Ich möchte zwar nicht 100% ausschließen, dass es ein Bug in meinem Plugin sein könnte, allerdings sehe ich gerade keinen Weg, wie mein Plugin im deinstallierten Zustand Einfluss auf WP ausüben könnte, da es keinerlei Daten – auch im installierten Zustand – schreibt, die nach der Deinstallation noch vorhanden wären. 🙂

      are you sure? I’ve tested that feature with 2.8, and it works perfectly fine for me. Have you tried deactivating all plugins except “Admin Management Xtended” to look if the error is still present?

    Super Plugin, und scheint auch in 2.8 zu funktionieren! Bis auf eine Kleinigkeit: Wenn man die Kategorien ändern will, öffnet sich eine Lightbox. Hier sind die Kategorien aber – zumindest bei mir – nicht in ihrer richtigen Hierarchie angezeigt. Könnte sein, dass es statt dessen nur die Reihenfolge anzeigt, in der man die Kategorien angelegt hat. Ist das ein Bug?

      Hey Gabriele,

      generell sollte die hierarchische Anzeige korrekt sein. Was du meinst, könnte aber folgender Sachverhalt sein. Wenn man aus einer bestimmten Hierarchie eine Kategorie auswählt, wird diese IMMER am Anfang der Liste angezeigt, und nicht mehr in der Hierarchie. Am Anfang kommen also immer erst die selektierten, dann die restlichen verfügbaren Kategorien.

      Kannst du das so bestätigen? 🙂

        Hm, ja und nein. In der Regel stimmt das schon, allerdings wenn man z.B. eine Oberkategorie wählt, und dann eine der Unterkateogien dazu, dann passiert folgendes:

        1. Gewählte Oberkategorie
        1.1 Gewählte Unterkategorie
        2. Hierarchisch alle anderen Kategorie
        2.2 …jeweils eingerückt die Unterkategrien
        3. Zweite Unterkategeorie von Nr. 1
        4. Dritte Unterkategorie von Nr. 1

        Bei diesen letzen beiden ist also weder alphabetisch noch erkennbar, dass sie zur Oberkategorie 1 gehören.

        Aber jetzt bin ich pingelig, sorry …

        Nichtsdestrotz ist es nämlich ein super Plugin und ich benutz es auch 🙂

          Hey Gabriele,

          meine Anzeige nutzt die selbe Funktion zur Anzeige der hierarchischen Kategorie wie WordPress selbst in der Artikelbearbeitungsansicht. Es müsste sich beide Anzeigen also decken.

          Aber wie du schon sagtest… das ist Kikifax, solange das Plugin funktioniert. 🙂

    I`ve got a strange problem with the plugin and WordPress 2.8.1 beta 2
    When i edit a tag on the post page, the autocompleter suggests 0 as tag.

    Hello!
    This is a great plugin! I am using it on WPMU 2.7.1. It’s working very well when SSL is not active, however, as soon as I use “define(‘FORCE_SSL_ADMIN’, true);”, all ajax calls stop working correctly. Is there a setting I need to set somewhere for this plugin to work with SSL? I really need to use SSL.

    I think I’ve found small bug in latest version. There are no difference in display between “All” and “Published”. Option “All” doesn’t show scheduled posts of drafts. It’s not big problem, just a little bit annoying 😉

    BTW — thanks a lot for excellent plugin, it really helps in work.

    dear oliver,

    i change the value of the posts that appear in edit posts into 55 items to appear (post.php in wp-admin/includes folder) then i have some trouble with jsquery.js the script stop responding in browser and then when i change publication date, the calendar doesn’t appear, i try to reactivate the plugin but it still doesn’t work nor downgrade the plugin version, i’m using wordpress 2.6.3, what should i do to make calendar appears again?

    Error in admin editpost page I am using Admin Management Xtended 2.0.3 version And My wordpress version is 2.8.4 .PLease help .When I disabled the “Admin Management Xtended 2.0.3” Now admin editpost is running……………………PLease Help
